History of BSCIC :
Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry Corporation(BSCIC) is the main institution in extension and development of the small and cottage industry of the country. In 1957 East Pakistan Small Industry Corporation(EPSIC) was established by the parliamentary act 17 that was approved by the legislature of the East Pakistan of the then.
It is national and economic growth that is obtained by extension and development of small and cottage industry is the total goal of BSCIC. To implement the plan, BSCIC has established offices in 64 districts. 74 industrial estates have been set up and to maintain its activities properly 4 regional offices have been set up in 4 division.
Main activities of BSCIC:-
Increase industrial production, contributing in industrialization and employment, alleviation of poverty, increasing productivity, ensuring regional balance, above all assist in socio-economic development by providing service and assistance to the entrepreneur of small and cottage industry .
Though the economy of Bangladesh is agriculture based, land area is not increasing with the rapid increase of population. As the land area is reducing with the increase of population, employment in agriculture is decreasing. As the 80 percent of the total labor force is employed in agriculture, there is no alternative of speeding up the growth of industrialization along with agriculture.
